End Cap

End Cap

End Caps are used with laminate flooringhardwood flooring

The end cap is a right-angle shaped piece of wood designed to end a floor by covering the top and side of its edge with a little bit of wood. It is used wherever your floor meets with anything vertical other than a wall, such as fireplaces, sliding door tracks, or taller surfaces such as high carpets or very thick tiles. It is also used to border off where a floor ends, such as at a doorway. Rather than dropping down a few millimeters from one floor to another, for which one uses a  reducer, this one just “ends” a particular floor. The end cap allows for the expansion area laminate or wood flooring might need in those areas where it ends.

Some end caps will be installed by being attached to the vertical surface your floor is meeting, a wall, for instance. Some end caps are installed with a plastic track that is directly attached to the subfloor, and then the transition piece is snapped into to the track. In these cases, the plastic track should never be adhered to your top flooring, what you’ve just installed, only to the subfloor.
