Irregulars

Discount Irregular Flooring Shopping Guide

Premium, brand new flooring—often referred to in our warehouse as First Quality—represents the highest grade available. Organizations like the National Wood Flooring Association classify similar hardwoods as Clear or Select Grade, known for their uniform appearance and minimal natural variation. These planks typically feature few to no knots, burls, or visible imperfections.

Irregular laminate or vinyl flooring differs primarily in appearance. You might encounter slight visual inconsistencies such as pattern shifts, minor coating gaps, or image variations. In wood flooring, “Cabin Grade” products may include more natural characteristics like knots, mineral streaks, and grain variation. This added character is often preferred by homeowners seeking a more natural look.

Despite the naming differences across the industry, irregular flooring is not used or reclaimed. It is brand new, produced from the same materials, using the same manufacturing processes as premium flooring. The only difference is aesthetic variation. In fact, premium flooring is not more durable—just more uniform in appearance.

Because only about 5–10% of manufactured flooring is classified as irregular, availability changes frequently. This makes it less common in traditional retail stores, but ideal for outlet-style businesses like ours where inventory is always rotating.

Grading is based on color variation, grain consistency, and natural features. Some planks are set aside simply for being slightly outside intended color or gloss ranges. When installed properly, irregular flooring offers excellent value—often at a fraction of the cost of even discounted premium options.

Pros & Considerations

Things to Know

Irregular flooring typically does not include manufacturer warranties. These products are sold as-is, allowing manufacturers to focus warranty support on premium product lines.

If warranty coverage is important, we also offer fully warrantied premium flooring at discounted prices—just explore our premium selection.

All flooring is shipped sight unseen. Cartons are not opened or sorted, and products ship exactly as received from the manufacturer.

Expect natural variation including color differences, knots, mineral streaks, or grain variation. These features are part of the product’s character and may be desirable depending on your style preference.

Some products may include shorter board lengths. While this can slightly increase installation time, shorter boards are often easier to handle and less prone to bowing.

In addition to vinyl plank flooring, we also carry tile and resilient sheet vinyl options to suit any space. Our selection includes groutable vinyl tiles for added style and flexibility.
