Ceramic Flooring
There are a number of
ceramic tiles and planks
for flooring. They are available in many colors, sizes and looks,
offer a wide range of designs, and can be used in almost every room in
your home. There are many advantages to using
ceramic tile as
your flooring choice. A few basic factors to consider follow.
DesignCeramic tiles come in an array of shapes and sizes (square, octagonal, rectangular, triangular), a wide variety of colors and unlimited patterns, allowing you to be the artist in creating a mosaic floor pattern, or any look you want to compliment your room. Value
Much like hardwood flooring, ceramic tile flooring can increase the
resale value of your home. These are the only two kinds of flooring
about which this is usually said. That both are ‘real’ may be the
biggest factor.
Cost
The installation cost of ceramic floor tiles may be slightly more
expensive, but they are much more durable than most other floor
options, making them more efficient over time.
DurabilityCeramic tile is waterproof. Pet paws and active kids are not going to scratch or wear these away. The Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) Rating Guide rates the strength of the glaze on the tile against scratching and wear, as follows. PEI 1 – Very Light Traffic, for all indoor wall applications, countertops such as those in bathrooms, and very light traffic in residential bathroom floors. These tiles are not recommended for any area with heavy foot traffic. PEI 2 – Light Traffic, for all interior wall and countertop applications, and light traffic residential floors. It should not be used in areas such as kitchens, entryways, stairs, or areas with heavy traffic. PEI 3 – Moderate Traffic, for all interior wall, countertop, and residential floor applications. This rating is not Commercial grade. PEI 4 – Moderate to Heavy Traffic, for all interior wall, countertop, residential interior floors, and light commercial applications (think restaurants). This Tile is not intended for Heavy Commercial Use.
PEI 5 – Heavy Traffic, used for all interior wall,
countertop, residential floors, and heavy commercial applications
where extreme durability is required.
Versatility
Ceramic floor tiling is extremely versatile and can be used indoors
or outdoors. They are multipurpose and can work in any room provided
the subfloor is level. It is considered a very hygienic material,
consistently used in bathrooms and kitchens.
MaintenanceCeramic floor tiles are very easy to clean. Swiffer brooms and mops work quite well. They should be resealed every couple of years to reduce damage or erosion from normal wear and tear. It is a simple process to replace cracked or broken tile without having to redo an entire section of floor. Simply obtain a replacement tile, remove the broken piece, and re-grout the new one into place. This usually takes less time than it does to repair almost any other type of floor. Maintenance products can be found in your local home store. Ceramic Tile Flooring is adaptable, easy to install and maintain, durable, and increases the overall value of your home. It is a great flooring selection. |
