How to Clean Laminate Flooring

We are asked every day by almost every customer what is the proper way to clean laminate flooring. So below are some tips provided by FAF to keep your laminate flooring looking amazing.

You can retain the pristine appearance of your laminate floor by sweeping or vacuuming it regularly to remove loose grit and dirt. A vacuum cleaner is the fastest way of going about this but a broom is a good alternative. Vacuum cleaners are the ideal choice because they are better able to pick up dirt and grit along the edges, in crevices or between planks. If you choose to wipe/mop your laminate floors, never wet mop a laminate floor as pooling water is likely to damage the floor. Also avoid things like the Swiffer WetJet. The only liquid you want to use as a cleaner on a laminate floor is a no rinse cleaner designed for laminates, available on our site and in home stores. Use a dry Swiffer style device to spread and wipe the cleaner on the floor.

A good way to protect a laminate floor is by placing doormats at entryways which will trap excess moisture and dirt, stopping it from getting into the home.

While laminate is known for its durability, it is not indestructible. It is recommended to mount furniture on floor protectors or glides to prevent accidental scratching or abrasion, and always ensure that heavy furniture is lifted while moving. Laminate flooring can scratch so take great care when moving any objects across the floor.

Many steam cleaning products are on the market that advertise they are safe for all types of floors. We never recommend steam cleaning laminate. Also steel wool and scouring powders are a no-no. Avoid soap-based detergents, mop and shine products and never wax a laminate floor. With proper care and maintenance your laminate floor will provide your home years of beauty and warmth.
